Candidate: Rohit Dhamija

Who are you?

My name is Rohit Dhamija. I am usually addressed as “RO”. Less chance of my full name causing someone’s tongue to twist. I am a pilot by profession and am currently managing the flight department of a corporation based in Oakville. I tend not go into a diatribe about anything but consider myself a man of action. My profession does not allow any room for mistakes, and therefore, I strive not to make any. My skills bring me the luxury of logical thinking. I am an inherent problem solver and a born leader. I am a lover of this great country, and especially the great city of Toronto.

Why are you running?

Politics is in my blood. The passion to stand up for the unrepresented, the weak and the downtrodden is strong. I am not afraid of calling a spade a spade. City Idol is my portal to the public life and service for which I am destined. For years, I have toyed with the idea of entering politics but my love of flying airplanes kept me away. One fine Saturday morning, a couple of weeks ago, while sipping my morning cup of java in my bed, I turned the page of a newspaper, lo and behold, the article about City Idol jumped out of the page and stared at me as if saying, “Rohit, it is time!” Yes, it is time to contribute to society by throwing myself in the fray rather than sit on the sidelines and complain. Apathy, be gone!!!

What should a City Councillor be?

A councillor, by definition, is a person duly elected by the people to serve as an administrator, legislator or advisor. Elected and serve are the key words. Why then do so many politicians forget this and consider themselves to be invincible once they are elected? In my opinion, there is only one thing a councillor should be - The voice of the people that elected him or her.

We need new leaders.
