Candidate:
Okeima Lawrence

Who
are you?
Okeima R. Lawrence. For over the past ten years
I have been advocating for youth programs and initiatives in the city
of Toronto. I have a strong knowledge and understanding of issues facing
young people and the people of Toronto. I bring with me dedication,
effective communication skills, team-building skills and an unquenchable
thirst for social justice, inclusiveness, and fair and equal access
to services and programs for all Torontonians. That is why I firmly
believe that we can all effect change, that is why I am a member of
the Laidlaw Foundation, the Toronto Youth Cabinet and the youngest ever
-Toronto Public Library board member.
Why are you running?
I would like to contribute towards a
world that meets the needs of youth and a City that leads the way towards
new, innovative, ideas and solutions. Kofi A. Annan, once said, "With
the inexhaustible optimism and energy of youth, you especially can make
a difference." The reason is clear why I want to participate in
City Idol: It's because I refuse to believe that individuals cannot
influence or effect change and I choose to do something to foster sustainable
change. We need fresh ideas and a renewed commitment to all communities
and all youth.
What should a City Councillor be?
A
City councillor should be committed to the development of our City,
in all communities, from end to end. They should be passionate and intelligent
and driven towards building a sustainable future for generations to
come. Yes, we need a councillor that is able to dream, imagine and be
connected to the people and their needs. Moreover, humble to represent
them.
Anything else?
This is who I am, this is what I believe,
this is what I hold to be our greatest potential and this is what we
are capable of if we dream for something far better than what we can
see and what we think we know. Lets us wage a struggle against old ideas.
I want to see a better City...filled with kindness, justice, brotherhood,
friendship and love.

We need new leaders.
