Candidate:
Kevin Peck

Who are you?
I'm a 10-year resident of Toronto and activist for quality living. I
live and work downtown and use a combination of bicycle, transit, and
taxi to get around -- I love the freedom from NOT commuting with a car.
I'm a regular patron of St. Lawrence Market and would like to see more
markets like this accross the city. In the summers, I enjoy bicycling
through Toronto ravines and spending time on the waterfront, sailing.
In my work, I am currently a Trade Analyst; I studied Engineering and
Economics and currently have a Bachelors of Science.
Why are you running?
Today, there are a number of threats to quality living that, I believe,
with decisive civic action, we can avoid. I would like to see a Toronto
where everybody in the GTA area is able to live with a 45-minute, or
less, commute by either bicycle, transit, or car. Amenities such as
shopping, groceries, day-care, schools, and parks should also be within
walking/cycling distance. For the suburbs of Toronto, this means better
services and mixed developments. For downtown Toronto area, this means
keeping some commercial and industrial areas near to where people live.
What should a City Councillor be?
A city councillor is a political vehicle for the immediate needs of
constituents. This means that a resident's issue over a tree on public
land, a dispute with a neighbor over bylaws, or a contentious development
plan is an issue for me, as your city councillor. A councillor should
also facilitate community interest in a vision for the long-term plans
of the city. I have presented some of my vision to you here -- it is
open for discussion. Through further discussion, a consensus will develop
and we can share a community vision that will, in the end, keep that
quality living for all of us.

We need new leaders.
