Candidate: Kelly Jones

My name is Kelly Jones. I live in the midtown area of Toronto and have been a resident of this fine city for 20 years. I am 39 years old and work for an insurance company as a claims analyst. I have volunteered for local youth sports organizations and participated in various charitable causes. I consider myself to be a person who possesses great passion for things that I hold dear such as people and community.

I believe that passion is a necessity for the position of city councillor. I also beieve that a councillor should possess qualities such as integrity, accountability, innovative, representative, able to deliver and open minded.

I feel that public transit should be a priority as this city proceeds into the future growing at a rapid rate. TTC passes should be cheaper to encourage more people to choose public transit. The benefits would be significant in traffic congestion relief as well as pollution which has become more of an issue with every passing year.

I feel that there should be more incentives for welfare recipients to integrate into the workforce and one proposal would be to have a sliding scale of benefit reduction so that benefits get phased out gradually rather than simply terminating them.

The homeless problem has caught the public eye more in recent years. We could make benefits accessible to them via a mobile trustee if they are adamant that they will not leave the streets.

I would also like to see promotion of green incentives which would assist in community development.

I would also like to see referendums on issues that are controversial.

We need new leaders.
