Candidate: Jesse Zimmerman

Who are you?

My name is Jesse M. Zimmerman and I am native of Toronto, although I consider myself more than a mere resident, but rather a Toronto Patriot. Yes, I imagine a city can have its own patriots, much like a nation can. Why not? I was born and raised in this city and have grown to have a passion for it. There are few other places in the world where one can sight the diversity and thus, the strength of this city. Toronto represents a mosaic of the world, alike a church glass, even the more beautiful in the light of the sun. Despite the beauty, I feel only a few actually understand how truly graced we are to live here.

Why are you running?

I feel passionate about my city that I love so much. As any true patriot (city patriot at that) would feel, I worry about the future of Toronto. Many issues have plagued Toronto in recent years and as a citizen I feel the need to speak up on them. Our future is clouded and I must do my part to keep Toronto as wonderful as it is.

What should a City Councillor be?

A City Councillor must respect and understand his/her constituents, their wishes and needs. The Councillor is there to represent, not to lead or dispense orders. They are meant to understand and care beyond finance and gain. They must always put the welfare of the city above their own. They must continually respect democracy and it’s process.

Anything else?

I care deeply about Toronto and all the situations and events within it. I currently reside near York University and the Jane and Finch area and feel blessed to have grown up in such a place. Here I understand the full importance of community and my place within the city and within the world. I look forward to building a great future for Torontonians.

We need new leaders.
