Candidate: Jenny Bundock

Who are you?

Well hey there, my name would be Jenny, and I’m a third year student at York University, currently majoring in Visual Arts and minoring in Environmental Studies. I am an outspoken feminist, environmentalist, artist, activist and satirist. (And I evidently like words that end in “ist”…)

Why are you running?

I’m running because I feel as though I should be doing more. I am constantly soap-box style ranting about the changes and initiatives that I believe are necessary in order for our society to sustain itself. I believe that through better planning and good people making a lot of noise our city can be a lot better. I figured it was about time I put my money where my mouth is… and I have a very big mouth.

What should a City Councillor be?

I think a city councillor should be someone that can be trusted to not merely go with the flow. A city councillor should constantly be pushing the envelope. A councillor should be one of the most optimistic members of the community. The individuals that are working for the people of this city, regardless of any factor, whether it be age, race, postal code, or income. The goal should be everything for everyone, not the current approach that leaves some people sleeping under the Gardiner.

Anything else?

I think that we’ve reached a pivot-point… possibly because we have developed this habit of living like there’s no tomorrow, and not to mention become all warm and fuzzy about the current systems. The system right now is like getting a haircut from a 9 year old. Good-intentioned…You bet! Logical in the long run… (Even though it’s cost-effective) No. YOU’RE worth more than what you’re being sold for. Your air, green, personal and private space is worth more than IT’S being sold for. It’s time we started paying closer attention to the true cost of our actions as well as feasible alternatives that allow us to live socially and morally acceptable lifestyles, without collapsing our economy.

We need new leaders.
