Candidate: Dawn Ewing


Who are you?


My name is Dawn Ewing and I am a communications coordinator and the mother of a very adventurous two year-old. I grew up in Western Canada, living in both Vancouver and Calgary before moving to Toronto at the age of 19. I have become a true Torontonian and involve myself in the community by volunteering with the Toronto Community Foundation Council of 100, Vital Images committee and previously as a content leader for the Toronto Youth Summit.

Why are you running?


As a candidate, I want the average citizen to look at me and to see a piece of themselves and believe that I will do what is right for them, our community and our city. Toronto is not nearly the city it could be, the city it should be! Toronto’s responsibilities have grown and grown while its ability to meet those responsibilities has become a colossal challenge. I'm talking about everything from daycare to housing to education. The gap between the rich and the poor is rapidly expanding and certain communities are in danger of being left behind. The absence of a national daycare program is appalling and at the city level, we MUST put pressure on higher governments to provide support! We have a housing crisis that simply cannot be ignored, with a waiting list for affordable housing that is simply inexcusable. Our schools cannot provide the services our children need to become successful thriving adults, this means ESL and special education programs. We need to create an outstanding prosperous community on the portlands that includes affordable housing, parks and public spaces, schools, community centers and neighbourhood businesses. We need to make sure that all citizens of Toronto are seen as valuable regardless of income, race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Each of us has something unique to offer this city…it’s what makes us what we are, the most diverse city in the world!


What should a City Councillor be?


A City Councillor should be accessible, accountable, honest and open to new ideas and creative solutions.


We need new leaders.
